The Activate Account page is opened from the invitation email Shopify sends when you create a customer account for someone in the admin. It is built from a single Activate account section that shows a heading, a short instruction and a card where the customer chooses a password or declines the invitation. The wording of the heading, text and both buttons are section settings; the activation itself is handled by Shopify.

What this page shows

  • A heading and short intro.
  • A form card with Password and Confirm password fields, both required.
  • A filled Activate Account button and an outlined Decline Invitation button. Declining marks the invitation as refused and the customer keeps a guest profile.
  • Shopify’s validation errors above the fields when the passwords do not match or are too short.
Customers only reach this page through the link in their invitation email; it has no navigation entry. The link expires after a period set by Shopify, after which a new invitation must be sent from the admin.

Getting started

1

Open the Theme Customizer

From your Shopify admin go to Online Store, then Themes, and click Customize on Olympus.
2

Choose the activate account template

Use the page selector at the top of the Theme Customizer, open Customers and pick Activate account.
3

Select the Activate account section

Click Activate account in the left sidebar to open its settings.

Settings

Heading titles the page (Default: Activate Account). Text is the instruction beneath it (Default: “Create your password to activate your account.”).
The filled submit button. Default: Activate Account.
The outlined button that refuses the invitation. Default: Decline Invitation.
Paints the form card. Default: Scheme 2.
Spacing is None, Small, Medium or Large (Defaults: Medium on top, Large at the bottom). Section border is None, Top, Bottom or Top and bottom (Default: None).
Invitations are sent from the customer’s profile in the Shopify admin, and activation, password rules and link expiry are managed by Shopify customer accounts. This template applies to classic customer accounts; new customer accounts do not use passwords and skip this page.

Best practices

Keep the instruction plain

One sentence telling the customer to choose a password is all that is needed. They arrived from an email that already explained why.

Make Decline clearly secondary

The default outlined style keeps the decline option available without competing with activation.

Match the other account forms

Use the same color scheme as Login and Reset Password so the card looks familiar.

Personalize the invitation email

The theme cannot change the email. Edit its wording in the Shopify admin under Settings, then Notifications.
