What this template controls
- Gallery, navigation and layout settings of the Product section, independent from the default product template
- The blocks shown for gift cards: vendor, title, price, tax note, variant picker and buy buttons by default
- The recipient form (email, name, message and send date), enabled per Buy buttons block
- The issued gift card page: balance, expiry, code and Apple Wallet link, styled by the theme
Getting started
1
Open the Theme Customizer
From Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes and click Customize on Olympus.
2
Choose the Gift card template
In the page selector pick Products → Gift card. If your gift card product does not use it yet, assign the template on the product in Shopify admin under Theme template.
3
Select the Product section
Adjust its settings and blocks. Changes here do not affect the default product template.
Template settings
The Gift card template is the Product section with a lighter configuration: Thumbnails gallery, large gallery width, square media with Sharp corners, arrows on both desktop and mobile and Dynamic pagination on mobile. Every setting described on the Product Page (PDP) page is available here as well, so you can, for example, switch to a Stacked gallery for a single card artwork. The template starts with these blocks:- Product vendor, Product title (Heading 3 size, H1 level) and Product price with unit price turned off
- Tax note with the default tax and shipping text
- Variant picker set to Dropdowns with Show the selected value on, which suits denominations such as 25, 50 and 100
- Buy buttons with the quantity selector and price in the button
Recipient form
The recipient form is part of the Buy buttons block and is controlled by Show recipient form on gift card products (on by default). It only renders on gift card products, so the same block can be used in both product templates. Customers see a checkbox reading “I want to send this as a gift”. Ticking it arms the recipient fields and reveals them; unticking it empties them again and switches them off, so nothing is sent with the order and the card is delivered to the buyer as usual. A customer who changes their mind therefore never carries a half-filled address to checkout. Ticked, the form shows:- Recipient email (required once the checkbox is on)
- Recipient name (optional)
- Message (optional, up to 200 characters)
- Send on (optional): a date on which Shopify delivers the card
Digital delivery to a recipient is a Shopify feature. It requires gift cards to be enabled in your Shopify settings and follows the delivery rules configured there.
Issued gift card page
When a gift card is purchased or issued, the recipient receives a link to a standalone page rendered by the theme. It shows, centered on the page:- The current balance as the main heading
- An expiry notice when the card has expired or been disabled, and the expiry date when one is set
- A gift card illustration and the store name
- The gift card code, formatted for reading, with a note to use it at checkout
- An Add to Apple Wallet link when Shopify provides a pass for the card
Best practices
Use denominations as variants
One gift card product with a variant per amount keeps the Dropdowns picker short and the price in the button accurate.
Keep the recipient form on
Sending to someone else is the main reason to buy a gift card online. Only turn it off if you deliver cards manually.
Explain the delivery
Add a Text block near the buy buttons stating that the card is emailed, and that the Send on date schedules it, to prevent support questions.
Design the artwork for square media
The template uses a Square aspect ratio with Sharp corners; supply card artwork that reads well cropped to a square.
