The Apps section is a container for blocks provided by Shopify apps — reviews, size guides, loyalty widgets, forms and similar features. On its own it renders nothing; its job is to give app blocks a home on any template and to wrap them in the same width, spacing and color scheme as the rest of the page, so third-party content sits in the layout rather than on top of it. If an app offers a block for the Theme Customizer, this is where you place it.

How it works

Shopify apps can expose app blocks, small pieces of interface that merchants add through the Theme Customizer. The Apps section accepts only app blocks — no theme blocks such as Heading or Text — and stacks them in the order you arrange them. The app itself controls what each block shows and which settings it has; the section controls the frame around them. Because the section applies the theme’s color scheme and width, app content that supports theme colors will inherit them. Apps that ship with fixed styling keep it.

Getting started

Install the app

Install the app from the Shopify App Store and complete its setup. Only apps that provide app blocks appear in the block picker.

Open the Theme Customizer

From Shopify admin, open the Theme Customizer and go to the template where the app content belongs.

Add the Apps section

Click Add section and choose Apps. Position it where the app content should appear.

Add app blocks

Inside the section click Add block, pick the app block from the Apps tab of the picker, and configure it with the settings the app provides.

Colors

Color scheme — background and text colors of the section. Default: Scheme 1. Choose a scheme that matches the sections above and below when the app content should blend in, or a contrasting one when it should stand out as a panel.

Common settings

Page, Narrow, Narrower, Fluid or Full width. Default: Page. Narrow and Narrower suit reviews and forms; Full width suits app content that manages its own layout.
None, Small, Medium, Large or Extra large. Default: Medium for both, slightly tighter than most content sections so the app block does not look detached from the content it supports.
None, Top, Bottom or Top and bottom. Default: None.

Blocks

The section accepts app blocks only. Each block’s name, settings and appearance come from the app that provides it, and its documentation is the reference for what the block does. You can add several app blocks to one section — for example a review summary above a question-and-answer widget — and reorder them by dragging.
App blocks are also accepted directly inside the Product Page and Article sections, where the app content can sit between the theme’s own blocks. Use the Apps section when you need app content on other templates or as a standalone band on the page.

Common use cases

  • Product reviews on the Product Page (PDP), placed below the description or near the bottom of the template
  • Store-wide widgets such as loyalty programs or referral banners on the home page
  • Forms and calculators on standard pages, kept to Narrow width for readability
  • Trust and shipping badges provided by an app, set to Full width as a band

Best practices

One purpose per section

Group only related app blocks together. Separate Apps sections for unrelated features keep spacing and color schemes independent.

Match the surrounding scheme

Use the same color scheme as neighbouring sections unless the app content is meant to be a distinct panel.

Mind the load

Every app block loads its own scripts. Keep the number of app blocks on a page to what customers actually use.

Check mobile rendering

App content is styled by the app. Preview the page on a phone to confirm the block fits within the section width.

Remove blocks you uninstall

Uninstalling an app can leave an empty block behind. Delete it from the section so the spacing does not remain.

Prefer in-section placement on PDP

For product-specific widgets, add the app block inside the Product Page section so it aligns with the product content.
